Two members of the Meyers Speech and Debate team will be competing in the National Championship Tournament of the National Forensic League June 14-19 in Dallas, Texas. Seniors Emily Welles and Olivia Richards qualified at the two-day Valley Forge District Tournament held March 14-15 at LaSalle College High School, Wyndmoor. This is the third consecutive year and the fourth year in the past five that Meyers has sent at least two competitors to NFL Nationals. Only the two highest ranking competitors in each event in the district qualify to advance to nationals. The Valley Forge District encompasses all of the private and public high schools in eastern and central Pennsylvania, including Philadelphia. Welles earned her qualification in the senate chamber of congress and Richards earned her qualification in the house chamber of congress. Other winners included Joseph Franckiewicz and James Langan, third place and first alternates in dramatic duo interpretation. Meyers placed second in the congress sweepstakes and fifth overall in the speech division. Award winners, from left, are Welles, Langan, Franckiewicz and Richards.
