ASHLEY/NANTICOKE: Centenary United Methodist Church, 24 N. Main St., is holding Holy Week services. Combined Maundy Thursday services will take place at 5:45 p.m., April 2. Combined Good Friday services will be conducted at noon on April 3. Easter Vigil services will be held at 7 p.m. on Holy Saturday, April 4, at Nanticoke First United Methodist Church, Main Street, Nanticoke. Easter services will take place at 9:30 a.m. on April 5 at Centenary United Methodist Church. There will also be an Easter egg hunt for the children during services on Easter morning. DALLAS: Misericordia University is holding an open house program for high school students and their parents on Saturday, April 18. The program begins with registration at 9 a.m. in the Anderson Sports and Health Center, inside the North Gate of the upper campus. A special “Meet the Coaches” session will be held 9-10 a.m. The open house program will run from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The schedule includes refreshments, campus tours, a faculty session and lunch and meetings with representatives of student services, athletics and financial aid. A session will also be held on the university’s Alternative Learner’s Project for students with learning disabilities.

DALLAS: The Friends of the Back Mountain Memorial Library and Leggio’s Italian Restaurant, 64 E. Center Hill Road, are hosting a fundraising event 5-8 p.m. on Wednesday, April 29, at the restaurant to support the Back Mountain Memorial Library and the activities of the Children’s Summer Reading Program.
A percentage of the total sales (not including bar sales) received between 5-8 p.m., including eat in, take out and gift certificates, will be donated to the library. There will also be a raffle for a Leggio’s gift card available to all attendees.
PITTSTON: St. John’s Evangelical Church will conduct Maundy Thursday services at 7 p.m. on April 2. Easter services will be held at 11 a.m. on Sunday, April 5. PLYMOUTH: The Plymouth Ministerium is sponsoring a Good Friday service from noon to 3 p.m. on April 3 at the First Welsh Baptist Church, Girard and West Shawnee avenues. The theme is “Words from the Cross” and meditations will be given by the Rev. Angel Santiago, the Rev. Robert Keller, the Rev. David Quesenberry and the Rev. Anita J. Ambrose, host pastor. Special music will be presented by Charlotte Reed, All Saints Parish Choir, Mary Poremba, Susan Youells, Mackenzie Bittle and the First Welsh Baptist Church Choir. Organists are Barbara Futchel, Lesa Smith and Janis Fawbush.
SCRANTON: The Greater Scranton Jaycees won the Golden Eagle Award at the year-end Pennsylvania Jaycees award conference in Gettysburg. The award symbolizes the number one chapter in Pennsylvania. There are 27 chapters in the state. This was the first time in the 30 years that the Greater Scranton Jaycees received this award.
Frank Joyce, chapter president, also won the Robert Eyerman Award for most outstanding chapter president and Jennifer Radzwillowicz won the the award for most outstanding state vice president.
SCRANTON: Valor Credit Union recently donated gently used winter wear and non-perishable food and essential items to shelters in the counties it serves. A previous donation was made earlier in January.
The credit union began accepting donations in November 2014 as part of its “Winter Warmth and Food Drive.” As of the end of the collection in February, the totals were 147 coats, 83 hats, 52 pairs of gloves, 66 scarves, nine snow suits, 20 pairs of socks, two sweatshirts, two pairs of boots, six blankets and approximately 310 pounds of non-perishable food and personal care products.
Shelters receiving the items included The United Neighborhood Centers of Northeastern Pennsylvania; St. Francis of Assisi Soup Kitchen, Scranton; St. Vincent de Paul Kitchen, Wilkes-Barre; and the Stroudsburg Wesleyan Church Food Pantry.
WILKES-BARRE: The Moving Education Forward Committee is hosting a fundraising event 7-9 p.m. on Thursday, April 9, at A Touch of Class, 228 George Ave., Parsons section.
