CLEARWATER, Fla. — Chase Utley hit two homers to give him long balls in four straight at-bats, Cole Hamels pitched six innings in his final start before opening day and the Philadelphia Phillies beat the Atlanta Braves 9-2 Wednesday.

Utley has hit two homers in each of his last two starts. His three-run homer to right field off Julio Teheran gave the Phillies the lead in the first. In his next at-bat, Utley led off the third with a shot that put the Phillies ahead 4-1.

“Having some positive results make you feel confident moving forward,” Utley said. “That’s the whole goal, try to put some good at-bats together, especially late in spring training, and try to take that into the regular season.”

Rays 3, Yankees 0

TAMPA, Fla. — Yankees shortstop Brendan Ryan strained his right calf in the sixth inning of New York’s loss to Tampa Bay and is expected to start the season on the disabled list.

Ryan was hurt going after Kevin Kiermaier’s grounder up the middle. He needed assistance as he limped off the field and had to be carried down the dugout steps.

Cardinals 5, Mets 4

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. — Carlos Martinez pitched six scoreless innings and Jhonny Peralta drove in two runs as St. Louis beat New York.

Martinez, the Cardinals’ fifth starter, scattered three hits, struck out five and walked one. Mets opening-day starter Bartolo Colon allowed three runs and six hits in five innings, struck out two and walked one.

Marlins 8, Nationals 0

JUPITER, Fla. — Giancarlo Stanton hit a two-run homer and Mike Morse had a three-run shot as Miami roughed up Jordan Zimmermann in a win over Washington.

Morse connected in the first and Stanton sent a drive onto the roof of the Marlins’ clubhouse beyond the left field wall in the second.

KISSIMMEE, Fla. — Dallas Keuchel allowed one run over 5 2-3 innings in his final tuneup for opening day, leading Houston over Detroit.

Keuchel gave up seven hits, struck out five and walked one.

Blue Jays 9, Red Sox (ss) 7

FORT MYERS, Fla. — Drew Hutchison tuned up for his opening-day start at Yankee Stadium next week by pitching three scoreless innings in Toronto’s win over a Boston split squad.

Hutchison allowed three hits, struck out one and walked one, lowering his ERA to 1.50.

Twins 4, Red Sox (ss) 4

FORT MYERS, Fla. — Phil Hughes and Clay Buchholz each had their final spring training tuneups as Minnesota and a Boston split squad played to a tie in nine innings.

Hughes struck out five, walked two and gave up one run and four hits in four innings.

Athletics 4, Angels 1

MESA, Ariz. — Jesse Chavez allowed three hits in six innings, Mark Canha homered and Oakland beat Los Angeles to finish the club’s first spring training at HoHoKam Park with a 14-1 record.

Billy Burns drove in a run on his major league-leading 29th hit, the most by an A’s player in spring training since Tony Phillips had 30 in 1999.

Dodgers 4, Royals 4

SURPRISE, Ariz. — Clayton Kershaw and Yorduna Ventura each had a final sharp outing in preparation for opening day as Los Angeles and Kansas City tied.

Kershaw, the 2014 National League MVP and Cy Young Award winner, gave up one hit and an unearned run.

Padres 8, White Sox (ss) 2

GLENDALE, Ariz. — James Shields allowed three hits in three scoreless innings, Jedd Gyorko hit a three-run homer in a five-run first inning against Jeff Samardzija and San Diego beat a Chicago split squad in the final game of the Cactus League season at Camelback Ranch.

White Sox (ss) 12, Mariners 4

PEORIA, Ariz. — Avisail Garcia homered among his three hits and drove in four runs, Jose Abreu added to his sizzling spring training with two more hits and a Chicago split squad beat Seattle.

Diamondbacks 3, Reds 0

GOODYEAR, Ariz. — Top prospect Archie Bradley pitched one-hit ball for six innings and Yasmany Tomas had a three-run double, leading Arizona to a victory over Cincinnati.

Tomas, who is slated to start the season in Triple-A Reno, doubled off Johnny Cueto in the fourth.

MESA, Ariz. — Anthony Rizzo hit a three-run homer off Kyle Lohse, and Jason Hammel allowed one run in five innings as Chicago beat Milwaukee.

Tommy La Stella homered starting the third.

Rockies 10, Rangers 4

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — Troy Tulowitzki homered twice and Carlos Gonzalez added his first spring home run for Colorado in a victory over Texas.

Tulowitzki went 3 for 5 and is hitting .385 with five home runs.

Giants 5, Indians 2

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — World Series MVP Madison Bumgarner outpitched AL Cy Young Award winner Corey Kluber, and San Francisco beat Cleveland.

Bumgarner allowed one run and five hits in four innings with four strikeouts in his final tuneup for Monday’s opener at Arizona.
