Sixteen seventh- and eighth-grade students from St. Nicholas-St. Mary School, Wilkes-Barre, recently competed in the Pennsylvania Junior Academy Science (PJAS) at Wilkes University. Four students demonstrated their computations and applications in math with the guidance of Viera Adameck. Twelve students presented the results of their experiments and research projects in science under the direction of Janice Szczechowicz. The first-place winners advancing to the state competition at Penn State, University Park, are Kimberly Aldrich, Sarah Azaizeh, Mikayla Biebel, Carly Cavanaugh, Matthew Dinh, Alyson Lacomis, Regan Mishanski, Emily Nguyen, Madison Partlow, Amelia Sack, Payton Safka and Kihana Schicatano. Second-place winners are Ivy Norton, Bailey Flannery, William Siejna and Margaret Walting. Matthew Dinh received an award for a perfect score for his work in chemistry.
