CONYNGHAM: The Sisters Group of Conyngham United Methodist Church is starting a new study by Rick Warren “You Make Me Crazy” at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, April 7, at the church, 411 Main Street. The series deals with many kinds of relationships. All women and their friends are welcome.
Communion will be served during the worship service at 10:30 a.m. on Sunday, April 12. The church band will also be making its debut appearance and the youth will be collecting a noisy offering to benefit the United Methodist Camp, Pocono Plateau.
Personal care items are being collected for Ruth’s Place, a women’s shelter in Wilkes-Barre. Items needed include travel-size soap, shampoo, toothpaste, hair ties, stamps and note paper. Items can be dropped off at the designated bin in the social hall of the church.
HONESDALE: St. Padre Pio Prayer Group will gather to celebrate the Feast of the Divine Mercy on Sunday, April 12, at St. Mary Magdalen Church, 414 Church Street. All faithful are invited.
The annual devotion on the second Sunday of Easter will begin at 2 p.m. with the blessing of the Divine Mercy image by the Rev. William Langan, host pastor and group spiritual director. Special Marian devotions, including recitation of the mysteries of the rosary, will precede exposition of the Blessed Sacrament/Eucharistic adoration and an offering of prayers for priests.
The Chaplet of Divine Mercy will be chanted at 3 p.m. followed by a scripture reading and spiritual reflection. The Book of Prayer Intentions will be presented prior to the intercessory prayers to St. Padre Pio.
Litany of Divine Mercy will be followed by Eucharistic procession, closing with benediction and blessing with the Relic of St. Faustina Kowalska, the Divine Mercy saint.
SHICKSHINNY: Singers of all ages and skill levels are invited to participate in the 12th annual Shickshinny Area Community Choirfest at 6 p.m. on Sunday, June 14, at First United Methodist Church, Shickshinny.
The theme of this year’s festival is “Songs for the Journey.” The concert will feature both sacred and secular choral music, including “Three Spiritual Songs from Cold Mountain,” arrangements of classic American hymns and folk songs and the Brahms “How Lovely Is Thy Dwelling Place.”

WILKES-BARRE: The Jewish Community Center is hosting a dinner and remembrance service in observance of Yom Hashoah on Tuesday, April 14. Yom Hashoah is a day of remembrance for the six million Jewish people who lost their lives during the Holocaust.
Dinner will be served at 5:30 p.m. and the program will begin at 6:30 p.m. Guest speaker will be Manny Lindenbaum, a child Holocaust survivor and an active member of the Kindertransport Association. The community is invited to attend. The program is free and the cost for the dinner is $6. Reservations are required. Contact the Jewish Community Center at 570-824-4646.
A memorial torch lighting by second generation survivors and a reception will follow.
The event is co-sponsored by the Jewish Community Center, Congregation Ohav Zedek, Temple B’nai B’rith and Temple Israel.
