Lacawac Sanctuary and Field Station recently received a $5,000 grant from M&T Bank to support its YES (Youth and Environmental Sciences) after-school program implemented to provide STEM education opportunities. The program is aligned with state and local efforts to improve science and math achievement among youth attending extended day and after-school programs in Lackawanna, Luzerne, Wayne and Pike Counties. The YES Program targets children in grades kindergarten to sixth, especially those from minority groups and low-income residents. The program is serving approximately 700 children between the ages of 5-12 in center-based programs in Lackawanna, Luzerne and Wayne Counties.For more information on Lacawac or its YES After-school Program call 570-689-9494 or visit www.lacawac.org.
