Troop 160 has enjoyed yet another month of exciting activities. The Scouts have advanced, camped and expanded their skill sets. The adult leaders were responsible for bringing home important awards from the Dan Beard District.
On March 7-8, Troop 160 stayed at Camp Lackawanna for the annual Parent and Scout Camp Out. The Webelos II Scouts (Cub Scouts in their final year before crossing over to become Boy Scouts) joined the Boy Scouts at the troop for a weekend of fun. The Scouts went from stations that allowed themselves to expand their scouting skills, to the giant hill where sleds were constantly sliding.
Since Troop 160 always encourages recognition for advancement, it held a court of honor for all Scouts who had advanced in rank since June. Almost every Scout was called up and awarded the recognition they deserved in front of the whole troop (parents included). In addition, Troop 160 held a transition of adult leadership. The new Scoutmaster of Troop 160 is John D’Elia, who is replacing former Scoutmaster Gary Katz. Mr. Katz was Troop 160’s Scoutmaster from 2006-2015 and has been credited with helping over 50 Scouts achieve the rank of Eagle Scout. Previous Scoutmasters were also in attendance to witness the transition.
In the Boy Scouts of America, first-aid is taken very seriously. Since first-aid knowledge is required to advance through the ranks, many Boy Scouts are skilled at first-aid. Scouts from Troop 160 proved their knowledge by taking third place at the District First Aid Meet. Not knowing what to expect, the Scouts had to walk into a room with a random scenario ranging from heart attacks to puncture wounds. Congratulations to all the Scouts who participated.
The Dan Beard District volunteer recognition dinner was held on March 28. Many awards were given for adult leadership excellence. For instance, Steve Rich received the Cubmaster’s Key for Pack 160 and Kevin Sebring received the Webelos Den Leader award. Additionally, Troop and Pack 160 received gold Journey to Excellence awards. Every Scout deserves to have properly trained leaders and Troop and Pack 160 are grateful for their wonderful volunteers. Thank you to all adult volunteers responsible for these recognitions.
The troop is hoping for many more exciting events, future memories and awards to earn. The Scouts will continue to work on their personal trails to Eagle, while youth and adult leaders guide them along the way.
