April 2003

Lake-Lehman’s Julie Covert scored two goals in the Black Knights’ Wyoming Valley Conference win over Wyoming Valley West, 2-1.

Lehman keeper Deidre Wengen made seven saves to preserve the victory. The Black Knights had 30 shots on goal, while the Spartans had just nine. Traci Ragukas and Britney Hillard each had assists.

April 1993

The Gate of Heaven junior high girls basketball team won the first-ever Regis Academy Invitational basketball tournament by beating Pittston’s St. Mary’s Assumption, 36-30.

Gate of Heaven’s Chrissy Kane was named Most Valuable Player of the tournament.

April 1973

College Misericordia athletes Bonnie Long, of Trucksville, and Arlene Kozick, of Dallas, were each selected to have their biographies included in the 1973 edition of “Outstanding College Athletes of America.”

Long was a member of the field hockey and basketball teams, while Kozick was a member of the basketball team. Kozick led the Highlanders, the former nickname of Misericordia University, in scoring.
