Misericordia is headed to Ohio for the NCAA tournament.
The Freedom Conference champs will play Wooster in the opening round on Friday in a four-team pod at Marietta College in southeast Ohio.
Wooster entered last week ranked No. 20 in the country before losing to DePauw in the North Coast Athletic Conference tournament finals. The Fighting Scots are 22-6 on the season.
Host Marietta will play Medaille in the other first-round game at the site. The two first-round winners will play Saturday for a spot in the Sweet 16 on March 13.
The Cougars (21-6) beat King’s and Delaware Valley in the Freedom Conference tournament, winning the league title and an automatic NCAA bid on Saturday.
This will be Misericordia’s second trip to the NCAA tournament. The first came after the Cougars won the Freedom title in 2012. The way the bracket fell, they were forced to play a true road game against NYU, losing 84-65 in Manhattan.
Then a freshman, Joe Busacca scored 17 in the defeat. As a senior this season, he won Freedom Conference Player of the Year honors and was also named MVP of the conference tournament.
Wooster, which earned an at-large bid, is making its 13th straight NCAA appearance and 24th overall. The Scots have reached the Final Four three times since 2003.
Elsewhere in the bracket, Scranton will face Baruch in Friday’s opening round at Babson College outside of Boston.
On the women’s side, Scranton will be hosting a four-team pod and play Eastern Connecticut in Friday’s opener at the Long Center.
