April 2005

Two days after Pittston Area scored 18 runs and Wyoming Area gave up 18 runs, the Patriots picked up a 1-0 win in Wyoming Valley Conference baseball action.

Pittston Area scored the winning run in the bottom of the sixth when Paul Chimel crossed the plate. Chimel scored when Dructor hit a force out to second base.

Patriot pitcher George Dructor pitched a complete game, one-hitter for the win. He faced just three batters over the minimum.

April 1995

The opening day of the girls soccer season pitted Pittston Area against Seton Catholic. The Patriots erased a 1-0 deficit to win, 4-1.

With temperatures at a record low at West Park, Seton’s Amy Morreale scored from 25 yards out to give the Eagles the lead. The next four goals, however, came from the Patriots. Three of those goals were from Kim Thomas. Christina Munski scored the Patriots’ fourth goal.

April 1985

The Pittston Area boys track and field team racked up win No. 72 in a row with a 130-20 romping of Lake-Lehman.

John Doran and Mike Costantini each posted triple wins to lead the Patriots. Earlier in the week, the Patriots beat Coughlin, 113-37. Picking up double wins for Pittston Area were Grady, Costantini, Sheperis, Doran and the Kravitz Brothers.

April 1975

Wyoming Area senior basketball player Gemma Mehalchik was named the Most Valuable Player of the all-star game between the Wyoming Valley and the Lackawanna County all-stars.

Mehalchik scored 19 points in a 57-51 win for Wyoming Valley. Mehalchik also starred in the local game between the East All-Stars and the West All-Stars of the Wyoming Valley. She finished with 15 points and went on to play for King’s College.
