PLAINS TWP. — Gavin Morgans and Matt Darden combined on a one-hitter as Crestwood knocked off Coughlin 10-2 on Wednesday in a WVC Division 1 baseball game at Hilldale Park.

Morgans struck out five in five innings with Darden pitching the final two without surrendering a hit.

The Comets (1-1 WVC) scored six runs in the fourth to break the game open. Curt Yenchik (triple, RBI), Curtis Tokach and Jim Albee had two hits apiece.

Eric Christian had the lone hit for the Crusaders (0-1).

Meyers, GAR suspended

GAR scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh to tie rival Meyers 14-14 before the game was suspended due to darkness.

The game will resume when the two teams are scheduled to meet next on April 21 at Gibby Field.

Colin Pasone is 4-for-5 with four RBI for the Mohawks so far while Ryan Gilgallon has a double and three RBI. Grenadiers freshman Simon Peter is 2-for-4 with with a double and three RBI.

SOFTBALL

Hanover Area 22, Wyoming Seminary 1

MaryKate Perczkowski went 3-for-3 with a home run in the Hawkeyes’ three-inning victory. Perczkowski also picked up the win in the circle while striking out three.

Mackenzie Gagliardi went 2-for-2 and homered for the Blue Knights.

Holy Redeemer 7, GAR 3

Holy Redeemer used a five-run fifth inning to snap a 2-2 tie and go on to a win.

Morgan Bienkowski led the Redeemer with three hits, including a double. Olivia Mennig had two hits, while Britney Hebda and Bailey Janowski each had two RBI.

Kristen Coffay pitched five innings, striking out seven, to pick up the win.

Mikayla Hopkins had two doubles and two RBI for GAR.

COLLEGES

WOMEN’S LACROSSE

King’s 17, Wilkes 16

Gabriella Morrocu scored with 26 seconds left in regulation to force overtime and then again with 26 seconds left in the extra frame to rally the Lady Monarchs past rival Wilkes.

King’s trailed 10-3 before tying the game at 13-13 in the final minute on Morrocu’s third goal of the day. She added two more in overtime, including the game-winner.

Anastasia Araviakis also had five goals for King’s. Wilkes’ Madeleine Brownsey scored a career-high nine goals and added one assist.

Misericordia 16, Eastern 8

Brooke North scored five goals to lead the Cougars to a win on the road in their Freedom Conference opener.

Emily Hegner added three goals while Melina Juliano and Erin Baker each scored twice. Katie McLoughlin made 11 saves.

‘Play Gray’ at King’s

The King’s women’s lacrosse team will sponsor a “Play Gray” Day on Saturday to benefit King’s women’s basketball coach Brian Donoghue. Gray is the color for brain cancer, a disease which Donoghue has been battling for the past 20 months.

King’s, which will host FDU-Florham at 1 p.m. Saturday, will raise funds to help Donoghue and his family. There will be a $2 admission for the game which includes food (hamburgers, hot dogs, chips and baked goods). Jars for donations will be set up at the game. King’s will also be selling gray ribbons in the campus center on Thursday and Friday and be raffling off gift baskets.

All proceeds will be donated to Coach Donoghue and his family. Donoghue has not missed a game or practice the past two season since his diagnosis in July 2013.

HIGH SCHOOL TRACK

Coughlin, Dallas split

Muhammod Chesson finished first in the 100-meter dash and the triple and long jump as Coughlin rolled past Dallas 116-34.

Teammates Nick Stavinski nabbed first in the 110 and 300 hurdles and Jacob Khalife was first in the discus and the shot put.

On the girls side, Dallas topped the Crusaders 91-56. Lindsey Oremus took first in the 800 and the 1,600. She was also part of the first-place 3,200 relay.

MEN’S LACROSSE

King’s 10, DeSales 6

The Monarchs broke a tie game with four unanswered goals in the final six minutes to take down DeSales.

Cam Trick scored three to lead King’s. Ryan Dambach had two goals, including the game-winner.

Eastern 14, Misericordia 4

Pat Kellish, Andrew Reynolds, Kyle Reese and Brandon Winslow scored for the Cougars in their Freedom Conference opener.

Patrick Johnson made 13 saves in goal.

BASEBALL

Widener 5, Misericordia 3

The Cougars fell behind 3-0 early and couldn’t complete a late rally on the road.

Ben Ciraolo, Chad Bell and Mike Comerford each had a hit and an RBI. Chris Boroch had two hits.

MU player turns pro

Misericordia’s Nick von Egypt has signed a contract with the Philadelphia Fury of the American Soccer League.

A four-year starter, von Egypt was a three-time All-Freedom selection and finished ninth in program history with 25 career goals. The New York native will make his professional debut when the Fury open the spring season at Icon FC on April 11 in Montville, New Jersey.
