Beginning today, PennDOT will begin a $5.94 million project to improve 15 miles of Route 706 in Susquehanna County.

A PennDOT contractor, Pennsy Supply, will begin replacing pipes this week, and then begin resurfacing the road from the intersection of Route 11 to the intersection of Route 267. They will skip over the 5-mile area that is currently being completed under a separate contract in the Borough of Montrose and Bridgewater Township. That $8.5 million job, which was begun in the fall of 2011 is scheduled to be completed by this August.

That ongoing betterment project includes installing new curbs, sidewalks, drainage and paving.

The project that is starting today will include drainage work, pipe replacement, mechanized edge repair, base repair, new guide rail and milling out the old pavement and replacing it with a new 4 inch surface. The work is expected to be complete by the middle of July.

Throughout the duration of the project, there will be single lane closures in various locations with flaggers controlling traffic. Delays are anticipated and motorists should use extreme caution when travelling in the area.
