WYOMING — Mayor Bob Boyer credited the Wyoming Valley Sanitary Authority for quick response to a sewer line that broke on Sunday evening on Wyoming Avenue near the Midway Shopping Center.
“I think they were here within 15 minutes,” said Boyer, “and although at one point traffic was limited to one lane, it wasn’t necessary to close the road.”
Boyer said the 60-year-old high pressure line, which ran from Pittston through the West Side and to Hanover Township, simply failed because of age.
Jim Tomaine, executive director of the authority, said crews worked round the clock to resolve the problem.
Tomaine said sewage was temporarily diverted into the Susquehanna River, preventing it from entering the roadway and in the best interest of the residents.
Tomaine anticipated the work would be completed by Tuesday evening.
