Crestwood cornerback Matt MacDonald signed his Letter of Intent on Monday to play football at Division II East Strousburg University.

MacDonald was named to the 2014 Wyoming Valley Conference Big School first team under the defensive utility category. The Comets finished the season 12-1, a school record, and won the District 2 Class 3A championship.

Kenyon 8, Wilkes 3

Kenyon College scored five runs in the sixth and seventh innings to pull out an 8-3 victory over Wilkes University Monday afternoon at the Lawnwood Complex.

Wilkes suffers its first defeat of the 2015 season after picking up a pair of wins on day one of its spring break trip.

Stephen Ruch led Wilkes at the plate going 3 for 4. Brown and Herbst each added two hits for the Colonels.

Johnny Jan Jr. suffered the loss on the hill going five innings allowing eight hits and three earned runs. Tyler Piccotti and Thatcher David saw time in relief for Wilkes combining for three innings allowing seven hits and five more runs.

King’s loses pair of matches

The King’s College men’s team opened up its spring season with a pair of losses during its Spring Break trip to Orlando, Fla. The Monarchs dropped their first match 9-0 to NAIA member Judson University of Illinois before falling 5-4 to NCAA Division III member Ohio Northern University.

The Monarchs, who played without No. 1 player George Parkhurst who missed the trip due to an internship. King’s was unable to win a set again a 4-1 Judson squad but faired better against Ohio Northern.

The Monarchs won 2-of-3 doubles contests but Ohio Northern captured four of the six singles bouts to earn the victory. Ryan Hegarty and Matt James were straight set singles winners. In doubles, Hegarty and Tyler Ryman were 9-8 victors while james and John Labian were 9-7 winners.
