William Goeckel

William L. Goeckel, formerly of East Northampton Street, Wilkes-Barre, died
Friday at the Mercy Hospital, Wilkes-BarreBorn in Wilkes-Barre, he was the
son of the late William J. and Louise M. Schappert Goeckel.
He graduated from Wilkes-Barre schools, Wharton School of the University of
Pennsylvania, and Graduate School of Banking at the American Bankers
Association at Rutgers University.
He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
Prior to his retirement in 1971, he was employed by the former Second
National Bank and First Eastern Bank, N.A., as a vice president and trust
officer.
He was a member of St. Nicholas Church, Wilkes-Barre, its Holy Name
Society, and was a former instructor in the Confraternity of Christian
Doctrine. He also was a former board member of College Misericordia, Dallas
Township, and Mercy Hospital, Wilkes-Barre.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Marion Mulligan in 1965.
Surviving are sisters, Catherine A. Goeckel, Jackson Heights, Long Island,
N.Y.; Mrs. Frank S. (Louise R.) Twiggar, Sun City Center, Fla.; and several
nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 9 a.m. Tuesday from the Walter W. Lisman & Son
Funeral Home, 233 S. Washington St., Wilkes-Barre, with a Funeral Mass at 9:30
a.m. in St. Nicholas Church, Wilkes-Barre.
Entombment will be held in St. Nicholas Mausoleum, Shavertown, Kingston
Township.
