Helen A. Sowa, of Pittston Avenue, Avoca, died Saturday at Penn State
Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center, Plains TownshipBorn in Duryea, she
was daughter of the late Joseph and Kathryn (Gaisor) Sowa.
She was a bookkeeper for most of her life.
She was a member of SS. Peter and Paul Church, Avoca, and its Altar and
Rosary Society.
She graduated from Avoca High School.
She was preceded in death by her brothers George, Joe, Bill, Walt and Cas;
and sisters Josephine Cebula, Sister Mary Alice Sowa and Mary Austin.
Surviving are her brother, Frank, Trenton, N.J.; sisters Sophia Sowa,
Broomall; Rose Sledgeski, Avoca; a nephew, Paul Austin, with whom she resided;
several nieces and nephews; and grandnieces and grandnephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday in SS. Pete
